In a study of 20 healthy individuals (10 men and 10 women), CranNaturelle, the signature organic cranberry powder ingredient from Fruit d’Or Nutraceuticals, was found to impede uropathogenic bacteria via a powerful anti-adhesion mechanism of action. 
 
The study, performed at Rutgers University, gave two 500 mg capsules of Cran Naturelle plus 300 mg of TransportC-PLUS to volunteers; the researchers then measured the ex vivo uropathogenic bacterial anti-adhesion activity in the participants’ urine in a 24-hour timeframe.
 
The researchers found no anti-adhesion activity prior to consuming the supplements. After consumption, they found an 80% of the participants had a positive response to the cranberry. The percentage of observed urinary anti-adhesion activity (from three to 24 hours post-consumption), yielded 16.5% overall response; at 12 hours, there was a 32.5% response, which was the peak activity period. All women tested had a response in at least one of the time periods with an overall response of 13.3%, while 60% of the men responded in at least one time period with an overall response of 14.1%. These data are based on soluble PACs (proanthocyanidins) that can be measured and tested in the bioassays used in the study.
 
The study also showed that the addition of TransportC-PLUS did not increase the anti-adhesion effects. However, said Stephen Lukawski, director of business development for Fruit d’Or Nutraceuticals, the vitamin C shows no interference with the cranberry yet in this matrix still provides its own known antioxidant benefits, which adds further appeal to consumers.
 
Mr. Lukawski commented, “This study is very important for brand marketers and consumers, who, at first signs of urinary discomfort, can now count on relief of symptoms and comfort in as little as 12 hours. It is also important to note that these results cannot nor should not be translated for other cranberry ingredients; this study and its results showed that Cran Naturelle exerts this quick and powerful response.”
 
This fingerprint analysis, performed by Christian Krueger Complete Phytochemical Solutions was successful in that Krueger and team were able to duplicate the 2013 Rutgers study that used the same lot number.
 
Lukawski explains that this new analytical equipment that is offered by Complete Phytochemical Solutions shows that fingerprint analysis is of absolute critical importance in order to execute repeatable studies. “Using this new sophisticated fingerprint analysis we are able to move forward with more clinical research studies knowing what the starting cranberry material (Cran Naturelle) actually contains; understanding what is in the cranberry powder such as fiber, polyphenol content, protein and more, gives us a complete and transparent chemical evaluation to maintain consistency from batch to batch and lot to lot. We our first to industry to be able to achieve these results using fingerprint analysis and this opens the door to firmly take cranberry beyond UTI.”
 
He added, “This is a major breakthrough and allows us to guarantee standardized potency and know what to look for when identifying good quality cranberry to begin with.  Once again this allows us to create a standardized cranberry powder with efficacy and demonstrate authenticity. Our long-term plan is to establish higher standards of evaluation in order to obtain repeatable studies so we can guarantee a standardized quality at the retail shelf for consumers to trust.”
